Perennial, stems erect, 1.5-11 dm, soft-hairy.
Leaves 2.5-7.5 cm broad, palmately divided about halfway to base into 5-7 wedge-shaped segments, segments generally 3-lobed, blade outline round, somewhat hairy.
Inflorescence 2-flowered; flowers radial, on pedicels 1-3 cm; sepals 5, 3.5-5 mm, not ridged, tipped with short awns; petals 5, 7-11 mm long, notched, bright purple; fertile stamens 10; stylar column 1-1.5 cm long, stigmas 1.5-1.8 mm.
Mericarps 5, 2.5-3 mm, smooth, scarcely covered with short and stiff hairs; seeds finely pitted.
